E Glass Yarn
The industry may or may not know that two renowned E Glass Yarn processors Multiple Winding and Glasscord have been sold to eastern European companies and all at relatively short notice. Both UK producers were well known and well relied upon for producing smaller quantity runs to suit industry in the UK.
Textile Technologies Europe Ltd are offering the opportunity to source alternate yarn supply and hold in stock small quantities should the customer wish.
E Glass Twisted Yarns (Plied Yarns)
- Construction: Made by twisting two or more single strands (singles) of yarn together in the same or opposite directions.
- Process: Typically, two or more singles are spun together, often in the opposite direction of their original twist to create balance.
- Texture: Can be smooth or slightly textured, depending on the twist tightness.
- Strength & Durability: Stronger than singles because the fibres are more securely bound together.
- Appearance: Simple structure with a relatively even surface.
- Examples: 2-ply, 3-ply, or 4-ply yarns, depending on the number of singles twisted together
E Glass Cabled Yarns
- Construction: Made by twisting together multiple twisted yarns (plies) rather than singles.
- Process: First, singles are twisted into plied yarns, and then these plied yarns are twisted together again, often in the opposite direction of the initial twist.
- Texture: More defined texture with a cord-like structure.
- Strength & Durability: Even stronger than twisted yarns due to the additional twist and layering.
- Appearance: More pronounced texture and stitch definition; often resembles cables or cords.
- Examples: 4-ply cabled yarn might involve two 2-ply yarns twisted together.

Which Should You Choose?
- If you're working on a project that requires good strength and smoothness singles or twisted yarns are often a solid choice.
- For projects where texture and durability are key (e.g. cables, textured patterns, or hard-wearing items cabled yarns offer superior structure and stitch definition.
