Basalt Fire Barrier Cloth

Product Description

Unlike synthetic and glass fibres, basalt fibres do not soften at high temperatures and so provide an excellent sacrificial fire-barrier textile for high-performance applications in infrastructure, transport and industry.

Basalt Fibre has the following key characteristics:

Thermal Applications:

  • Low thermal conductivity.
  • Excellent resistance to thermal shocks.
  • Excellent mechanical strength and has higher tensile strength than E glass.
  • Non-combustible.
  • Good dimensional stability.
  • Great flexibility.
  • Good chemical resistance.
  • Good abrasion resistance.
  • Basalt fibre exhibits superior temperature resistance compared to E glass fibres in the range; 300°C - 560°C, and can handle short periods to 700- 800°C in optimum conditions. It also serves as an excellent sacrificial fire blocking medium whereby the fabrics structure will remain in tact (though weakened and brittle) in temperatures up to 1200°C
  • Excellent heat insulation of pipes in nuclear plants as basalt is known to resist degradation caused by radiation.

Cryogenic Applications

  • Basalt also functions in very low temperatures down to -260°C so are useful for insulating liquid nitrogen tanks and pipes in cryogenic applications.
Applications
  • Fire Barrier Cloth.
  • Nuclear Insulation Applications.
  • Cryogenic Applications.
  • Textiles Resistant to Electromagnetic Radiation.
